My Experience with Analog Devices

20-08-07 NIT Bhopal.
Executives from Analog Devices, Banglore were expected to start the campus recruitment process at 10:30 am so I reached the porch of college at exact time. But after reaching I came to know that the team from AD has not arrived yet and it is postponed to 2:00 pm. Today only our minor exam for VII semester has been started. Due to the time shifting of AD the TPO people has changed our exam timing to 12:45 pm, which was supposed to start from 3:00 pm. That means we got 2 more hours to prepare for Industrial management, which I have studied a little due to preparation for AD.
I finished my minor exam at around 1:45 pm and we all students eligible for AD written rushed to the conference room of TPO. The eligibility criteria were cgpa 7.5 and ECE, EEE and ICE were allowed to seat. As we all took our seat the executives started with presentation intimating us with what exactly AD is and why people are going crazy about it. They have given detail of what all fields they are working and what is the prospect working at AD, Banglore. RAY STATA started AD in 1965. They mainly work in DSP domain (Blackfin processor, SHARC processor), IC design and software for their product. About AD Hyderbad they mainly work in wireless modules and MEMs. The SHARC processor is full made in AD Banglore and it’s their copyright so this shows that AD Banglore has a unique position among all other branches all over world. The package was 5.66lac per annum with 4.5lac in hand, estimated benefits of 1lac and estimated profit sharing of 16k. This was pretty good amount for fresher that’s what I felt. After the ppt round we were called for written test that comprises of technical paper of 1:30hr and aptitude of 45 minutes. I have appeared for it but I couldn’t clear the written test so I don’t have any further information regarding interviews. I just know that there will be 3 technical interviews and at last 1 HR round.

The technical written paper is bit tough. I am including whatever I remember.
1) How many 3 input AND gates are required to make N input AND gate?
2) If a car has a battery of 12 V and 5A current and if one of application requires double the voltage and current then configure the batteries for the required application?
3) A circuit was given with a capacitor fully charged to voltage 5V at t=0. There were some registers and capacitors in the circuit and one switch. There was no power supply. If the switch is closed the find the current through each resistor at t=0. Find the current at saturation and find the voltage across each capacitor at saturation. (Refer van vulkenburg or Electric networks by Chakroborty).
4) A system has an input (IN) bit string, which is synchronous with CLK, and the output is ‘1’ only when there is odd number of 1s in last three bits received. Now make a sequential circuit using D flipflop as a sequential element and any number of gates can be used for combinational circuit. (Assume there is no RESET pin in flipflop).
5) There was a question on superposition theorem. An analog circuit was given with two-power source you have to find the output voltage V0.
6) A question on current mirror circuit was given and asked to find the voltage across one resistor.
7) A question on delay in sequential circuit was given. The value of propagation delay and delay on wire was also given. They asked to find the maximum frequency at which the circuit can work.
8) A data sheet of IC 7400 was given. The value of Vih, Voh, Vil, Vol, Iil, Iol, Iih, Ioh was given. They asked to find the fan out of each gate of IC and also the effect of some noise voltage on the output.
9) Question on propagation delay was asked.

The aptitude section contained 3 groups of questions with different marks. There were total of 10 questions. The aptitude questions were bit tough for me and they were very easy of all who are preparing for CAT. They knew all questions as all came from some previous CAT question. So to get through AD aptitude you must work on your aptitude skills.

Prepare well for DSP, IC and Digital design and aptitude questions from CAT syllabus.

Wish you all the best.
