VISION has organised a seminar on Basic Electronics

I haven't mentioned much abut myself...Let me start with VISION. It is the only technical society in MANIT run by the students. The head of this society is Miss Roshni Kumari a final year Civil Engg. student. I have been working in this club from my 6th sem. and now i am Technical co-ordinator. I got interested in this society because I found it is organising lectures and seminars on very relevant technical topics and the information is given by students to the students. I found it a very good way of sharing knowledge and so I am working here very actively.

Today we have organised a lecture and project demonstartion session on Basic Electronics. The main moto of this 2hr session was to intimate the first yr and second yr students of various branches in MANIT with all basic components in Electronics Lab which they are either working on or going to work on. We started with the BREADBOARD..how to use it...how rows and columns are interconnected...how to put ICs on it...and all FAQs of using breadboard...we have given a huge importance to breadboard 'coz we found that all the studenst are always making mistake in connections with breadboard which led to failure in ckts and damaging of ICs.
After that we gave detail information abut Resistor, capacitor and inductor...the three pillar of any ckt design. We included the COLOR CODING of resistor, what 103 represents in capacitor reading??...which capacitor(Electrolytic or ceramics) and when??...how to determine inductance from its geometry...and their uses...Then we moved towards using Multimeter and powersupply...we have taught them to generate both positive and negative voltage from two power supply which is always needed for Opams operation. LED,IR and Zener diodes are included in presentation..At the end of lecture session we have included Regulator,OPAMS,DIGITAL IC,TIMER ,Microcontroller and SENSORS... It gave them a good overview of all the basic components used while working on any ckts.
A short lecture was also taken by our very good friend Mr. Manish Pandey who is studying in final yr,ECE in RIST. We have also invited two small kids Nishad Mishra(class V) and Mayank Srivastav(class VII) who are very interested in ckt designing and to all of our surprise they have demonstrated their ckt which include glowing LED using human current at their hands, small FM Tx ckt..This really boosted everyones confidence and it has shown that age is no limit if u really want to work...
After lecture session we stated with the cicuit demonstration which I and my frnd Bhupendra Mishra and Sudesh Morey had made for the students. We have made the following projects:
1) Temperature sensor using TMP35 temperature sensor
2) Phototransistor application using MRD300 phototransistor
3) Blinking LED at 2Hz using LM555 timer in astable mode.
4) Operation of NAND gate using IC7400.
5) Matching operation using XOR gater IC 7486.
6) Comparator operation and LED glowing using OPAM LM324.
7) Johnson counter and Ring counter using microcontroller ATMega8L and

codevision AVR.
8) Bulding Multimeter using LM555.

So In this full presentation we tried to make students aware of different functions of generally used componets. We have assumed that this will help them to tackel the problems in the field of electronics and inspire them to work actively in CKT designing..

hey sandeep,
I really appreciate your idea of having such a seminar. Students so badly need one. Some students graduate without having seen how a capacitor looks like, or what electrolytic and ceramic caps are.. or what color coding means. Good going!
